Walking in Tuscany

May is National Walking Month when we are encouraged to walk more whatever our fitness level. Walking is simple, free and one of the easiest ways to be active, lose weight and become healthy. Combining walking with a holiday is the perfect way to improve your health and wellbeing.

Tuscany is well known for its beautiful countryside and stunning cities. To truly experience its nature and feel part of its history, many choose to explore on foot.

Florence has a compact historic centre, perfect to discover on a self guided walking tour. Follow an itinerary to make sure you don’t miss anything and you will save time by covering ground efficiently, at your own pace and you can stop for refreshments when you want! Start early to avoid crowds, miss the midday heat and take amazing photos in the morning light.

Pienza is a great place to enjoy walks outside the village walls. The town itself is very small and won’t take long to explore. Equipped with a map you can embark on long walks across the Val D’Orcia, gentle strolls through wooded hillside and rambles along river beds. Just ask at the tourist office opposite the public gardens for a map and suggested routes.

Siena has coined the phrase “Urban Trekking” by creating wonderful walking routes which are great exercise, suitable for all ages and accessible all year. They even celebrate “Urban Trekking Day” on 31 October with special tours and new itineraries. Away from traditional routes and suited to all fitness levels, walkers can discover the region. This is just the tip of the iceberg but hopefully we have given you some great ideas for walks in Tuscany. Forget jumping off the bus a stop early and go that extra mile…..literally! Book a holiday to Cignella and start exploring Tuscany on foot. After a wonderful day hiking, the only place you will want to be is with your feet up in a luxury villa, ready to plan your next walking route!

See you soon
