Montalcino is surrounded by a forest of oak trees and stunning countryside where the highly esteemed wines of the region are made. The most famous of these is the ‘Brunello’, which has earned the title of DOCG. Wine connoisseurs must stop at La Fortezza wine cellar, while customised wine tastings at the Enoteca San Giorgio are highly recommended.
There are many beautiful buildings around the city, including the Romanesque Abbey of Sain Antimo, the gothic “Piazza del Popolo’ and the neoclassical cathedral. The old Convent of Sant’Agostino is now a Diocese Museum containing works of art by the Sienese Masters. It is located 34 km from Cignella.
